The New York Yankees placed outfielder Giancarlo Stanton on the injured list with a right calf strain on Wednesday. Stanton exited Tuesday night’s 7-6 win over the Baltimore Orioles with calf tightness, manager Aaron Boone said.
Boone said Stanton came to him before his at-bat in the seventh and indicated he had tweaked his calf while warming up in the cage.
Stanton, who was serving as the designated hitter, went 0-2 with one strikeout before leaving the game. Estevan Florial entered the game in his place in the seventh. Stanton is batting .285 with 11 home runs and leads the Yankees with 35 RBIs.
Earlier on Tuesday, shortstop DJ LeMahieu was a late scratch with left wrist discomfort. Boone said LeMahieu underwent an MRI on his wrist that came back negative. The 33-year-old had a cortisone injection and could return to the lineup in a day or two, Boone added.
