Jayson Tatum scored 46 points as the Boston Celtics avoided elimination, defeating the Bucks 108-95 in Game 6 on Friday night. Tatum’s scoring is tied for No. 2 in franchise history for most points scored in an elimination game. The series is tied at 3-3, going to a Game 7 for a spot in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Tatum, 24, posted 17-of-32 shooting from the field and 7-of-15 shooting from 3. Heading into Friday night’s matchup, the Celtics forward was averaging 26.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 6.1 assists in the 2021-22 playoffs.
“We let the opportunity slip away, but we still had a chance to make it a better story,” Celtics coach Ime Udoka said on his team’s mindset following the Game 5 loss.
Giannis Antetokounmpo put up a valiant effort for the Bucks as they tried to close out the series. The Bucks All-Star recorded a double-double 44 points and 20 rebounds in defeat.
Game 7 will tip off on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. ET from TD Garden in Boston. The winner will take on the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals.
