By Allan Fox: Caleb Plant took to social media to give Canelo Alvarez a confidence boost following his loss to Dmitry Bivol last Saturday night.
Interestingly, Plant’s brief words of support for Canelo resulted in a deluge of fans on social media, going after the former IBF super-middleweight champion, reminding him how he appeared to be looking for approval in his loss to Alvarez last November.
It was like a feeding frenzy from a pack of hungry sharks with the way the critics came out of nowhere to attack Plant, blasting him for the mental weakness he showed against Canelo.
Many boxing fans on social media were disgusted by Plant (21-1, 12 KOs) having a conversation with Canelo during the ninth round, appearing to search for validation from the Mexican star about his talent.
Any words of comfort from Plant towards Canelo were useless salve and impossible to undo how Bivol had exposed the Mexican star in a one-sided 12-round decision defeat at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Just gotta take a loss like a man, take it on the chin and bounce back. No excuses, no BS, just back to the lab.

“If you don’t face it, then how can you overcome it and get better. The truth is the truth, even if we don’t like it. The sooner we accept it, the sooner we can get on with it,” Plant said.
It’s unclear whether Plant’s words of solace for Canelo were genuine or a way to talk down to him in his moment of weakness.
If Plant’s comfort for Canelo were unfeigned, some boxing fans would see it as a way to get on the Mexican star’s good side so that he might look his way to give him a rematch soon.
To be sure, Plant made a fortune in his fight with Canelo last November, earning millions from that fight. A rematch would make Plant similar money, allowing him to move to the pricey neighborhoods like Beverly Hills or Holmby Hills, California.
“I think a lot of you silly mfs really think when I asked him, ‘I’m pretty good, huh?’ Y’all really think I was looking for approval, but I already KNOW I’m a GREAT fighter, not a good fighter,” said Plant.
“He thought it was going to be a cakewalk. So when it wasn’t, I wanted to HEAR HIM SAY IT,” said Plant about his fight with Canelo.
Plant needs to get active again, as it’s already May, and he still hasn’t fought since his loss to Canelo in November. If Plant has any hopes for a rematch with Canelo one day, he needs to put that defeat behind him, and accept the challenge from David Benavidez.
